Preparing for a wedding is not easy... Find out where to start!
When you start thinking about planning a wedding, you might not know where to start and might feel overwhelmed.... The same happened to me, keep on reading on reading for my experiences and tips!
First things first, get engaged!! When I started to plan our wedding, my now husband and I were not even engaged yet!
Quick background story:
The time my hubby and I first started talking to each I told him straight up that if we kept on talking my ultimate plan was to find a good spouse and not to fool around. Fortunately for me, he thought the same!
So because of the fact that it was already normal for us to talk and think about marriage it was not a crazy girlfriend wanting to get married haha. We planned our trip to Sri Lanka to see venues and find out how we should plan our wedding there.
Where to start
When you start planning your wedding make sure you and your future spouse take some time to sit down and talk a few things through. Here are 10 keyquestions you should ask yourself at the very first start (of course you could still use them when you're already planning your wedding):
1. How much of this wedding are we willing to plan our own, or do I need (proffesional) help?
2. Who do we want to involve in planning the wedding?
3. When do we want to get married?
4. What is our budget?
5. Where do we get married?
6. What do we need to arrange for the legal marriage?
7. How are we planning our ceremony (might be interesting for couples with a different cultural or religious background)?
8. When and how do we talk to families of both sides?
9. Where are we to going/do we want to live after getting married (for couples who don't live together yet)?
10. Are we really ready to get married?
After talking this through you can start with either contacting someone who is going to help you or start writing as much downs as you can. There are plenty and plenty of wedding planner books out there to guide you through a lot of things and details of planning a wedding.
Wedding planner books and websites
I have tried the wedding planner books, but personally writing with pen and paper just takes too long for me, so after a few times writing in my book I gave up and left it in a corner... There are also websites that can help you, which time-wise are in my opinion better to use. The website I'm currently using to plan our 1-year-anniversary party is: www.weddingwire.com! It's very nice to fill in your guestlist, make a weddingwebsite, make a seatingplan, ticking off things of their ready-made to-do list etc. etc. The only down part about this website is that you can only use a few features of the website only in the United States.
Planning a wedding can take a lot of time and has to fit into the planning next to all your other day-to-day tasks. Find the form
